Remove Excess Tissue and Tighten Skin with a Neck Lift

One of the first areas that can begin to show signs of aging is your neck. This area of the body can begin to sag, causing loose skin and wrinkles. With a neck lift at our Halifax, Nova Scotia, practice, Dr. Richard Bendor-Samuel and Dr. Louis Boileau can eliminate excess fat and tissue to rejuvenate your appearance. A neck lift is often paired with a facelift, but can be performed by itself. To begin planning your custom surgery, contact The Landings Surgical Centre today.

Are You a Candidate?

If you struggle with any of the following concerns, a neck lift may be a good solution:

  • Loose skin on your neck
  • Deep horizontal creases or bands
  • Loose skin hanging between your chin and neck
  • Double or triple chin, despite being at a healthy weight
  • Displaced pockets of fat in your neck

Results are often more harmonious when patients undergo a neck lift at the same as a facelift. Our surgeons may recommend that you complete both procedures. However, if you have undergone a facelift in the past, a neck lift can enhance its effects.

We will consider your overall health when determining whether a neck lift is right for you. To qualify for cosmetic surgery, you must have a healthy immune system, good skin elasticity, and no medical conditions that could compromise healing.

Procedure Details

The techniques used in neck lift surgery can vary from patient to patient, based largely on the treatment goals. The first step will typically involve administration of anesthesia, to make you comfortable during your procedure. Some patients only require local anesthesia and a sedative, while others may choose general anesthesia.

Neck lift surgery can greatly enhance your look, while appearing subtle and natural. Few people may even notice that you had surgery, but most will notice your younger, slimmer look.

During a traditional neck lift, we will make incisions behind the ears and under the chin. Since the incisions are carefully hidden behind your ears and hair, scarring should be minimal. Through these incisions, we will trim extra skin and tighten the underlying muscles. Once the procedure has been completed, the incisions will be sutured close.

If you desire less dramatic results, we may perform a limited-incision neck lift, placing the incisions around your ears only. We may also perform liposuction to remove unwanted or displaced fat pockets, or directly sculpt fat from unwanted areas of the neck to achieve the most precise results possible.

In some cases, you can enjoy stunning results by combining a neck lift with dermal fillers. Your procedure details will be reviewed with you at your initial consultation. Generally, neck lift surgery lasts two to three hours.
