Labiaplasty
So What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a type of plastic surgery designed to modify the size and shape of the labia. The procedure usually addresses an enlarged or uneven labia minora (inner lips closest to the clitoris) but can also reshape the labia majora (outer lips).
We understand labiaplasty can be a sensitive topic to discuss, but there is nothing to be embarrassed about.

View On GoogleCandidates for Labiaplasty
All prospective patients will first meet with one of our plastic surgeons for a consultation at our private offices in Halifax. At this time, we will go over your medical history to ensure you are not at increased risk for plastic surgery.
In order to qualify for labiaplasty, you need to be a non-smoker in good health and at least 18 years of age. We do not recommend this procedure for anyone that has not yet reached a fully mature state of development. Ideal candidates have sincere concerns about the aesthetics and function of their labia and realistic expectations for what the procedure can achieve. If you desire more comprehensive vaginal enhancement, we may recommend combining your labiaplasty with additional skin treatments like mole removal or scar revision.
Types of Labiaplasty
Trim Procedure
The trim procedure is the most commonly used technique in labiaplasty. In this surgery, the extended edge of labia minora is trimmed away so it lays flush with the outer lips. One of the main benefits of the trim procedure is that it removes the darker colored edge of the labia that some people find cosmetically unappealing.
Wedge Procedure
The wedge procedure is a newer technique that involves removing a wedge of tissue from the thickest part of the labia. Since the wedge technique preserves the wrinkled edges of the labia, many women find it provides a more seamless transition to the clitoral bulb and a more natural-looking finish.
A Closer Look at the Surgery
We will close the incisions with dissolvable stitches, which are effective and convenient during recovery.
Labiaplasty Recovery
Labiaplasty is performed on an outpatient basis at our Halifax surgical center, meaning you will return home the very same day to begin your recovery. It is normal to experience some swelling, tenderness, and slight bruising in the genital region after the procedure. However, these side effects are temporary and should gradually subside over the next three to four weeks. To reduce the risk of infection and ease any physical discomfort, your surgeon may prescribe pain medication and antibiotics.
While you can return to work about three to seven days after surgery, you will need to take certain measures to protect the sensitive vaginal area as you heal. Do not use tampons for at least two weeks and refrain from sexual intercourse for at least a month after the procedure. We also recommend waiting several weeks before resuming your normal exercise routine. If you have any questions or concerns at any time during your recovery, do not hesitate to contact our office. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
