What Treatments are Considered Non-Surgical Alternatives to Traditional Liposuction?
There are a number of non-surgical alternatives to liposuction currently available, each working through a different mechanism. Some of the most advertised procedures include:
- CoolSculpting: Intended to eliminate fat cells through controlled cooling, the results of this treatment are often much less noticeable than those offered by liposuction.
- SmartLipo: Where Coolscupting uses cold temperatures to eliminate fat, SmartLipo melts it away using the heat from a laser. It is typically recommended to treat small areas of fat.
- Belkyra®: This synthetic substance is intended to remove a patient's double chin via injection. In many cases, patients will need several treatment sessions to see results.
Patients are often drawn to these non-surgical methods of fat reduction because of the lack of downtime, up-front costs, or surgical risks. However, none of these services can provide the same high-quality results that patients have come to expect from liposuction.
