Mommy Makeover Scars By The Landings Surgical Centre on December 28, 2019

A mother and child playing in the poolHaving a child can put a woman’s body through many changes. Thankfully, a mommy makeover can help. Dr. Richard Bendor-Samuel and Dr. Louis Boileau have performed mommy makeovers on numerous patients located in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, helping them look slim, trim, toned, and fit again.

Scarring is a reality after any kind of cosmetic surgery, but there are ways to minimize it. The team at the Landings Surgical Centre would like to discuss incision and scar locations from a mommy makeover and what can be done to enhance your appearance.

Common Procedures Performed During a Mommy Makeover

During a mommy makeover, the following procedures are commonly performed:

  • Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
  • Breast lift (mastopexy)
  • Thigh lift (thighplasty)
  • Arm lift (brachioplasty)
  • Butt lift

These surgeries will be able to address the various changes to the body associated with the weight gain of pregnancy and the weight loss following childbirth.

Common Scar Locations

Given the nature of the surgeries listed above, it’s common for scars to be located around the following parts of the body:

  • The lower abdominal area
  • The underside of the breasts
  • The areolas
  • The groin area
  • The armpits
  • The underside of the upper arm

These incisions allow plastic surgeons to remove loose skin and make the necessary changes to body shape and contour.

How Visible Is Post-Surgical Scarring?

Post-surgical scarring in the first few weeks after a mommy makeover will be quite visible, but that is the nature of undergoing any sort of surgical procedure. In the next several months as patients heal, the incision sites will mend and begin to fade. In the years ahead, the scars will continue to fade and become less and less visible with time.

While the scars may never completely go away, the scar tissue should fade sufficiently. Patients will still be able to wear various tops, undergarments, and bathing suits that will conceal the vast majority of scars.

Creating a Treatment Plan to Minimize Scarring

During the consultation process, we can discuss any concerns you have with post-surgical scarring. If you’ve had issues with severe scarring in the past, we can modify surgeries or discuss alternatives to minimize scarring and still achieve excellent cosmetic outcomes.

Our goal is to ensure you get a mommy makeover that helps you look your best.

Tips on Reducing Scars After a Mommy Makeover

Consider the following tips to reduce the appearance of scars after from a mommy makeover:

Scar Revision Options
