Breast Lift Techniques to Restore a Perkier Bust Line By The Landings Surgical Centre on January 26, 2015

A full, shapely, perky bust lineMany women take pride in their body and look at their curves as a sign of femininity and beauty. However, as the body ages or as women experience significant life events (pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc.), that shapely, feminine body can also experience changes. Many women find that the breasts, in particular, are affected as their size, shape, and position changes over time. Women who once had firm, shapely, perky breasts may now have breasts that droop. A breast lift can restore a more youthful bust line and improve breast shape and firmness to give patients back their attractive, feminine figure.  At The Landings Surgical Centre, we offer our Nova Scotia patients several breast lift techniques that can meet their specific cosmetic needs to help them reach their aesthetic goals when it comes to the contour of their breasts.

“Anchor” Incision

The “anchor” incision is considered the traditional breast lift technique and is performed most often at our practice. This technique allows for the greatest degree of alteration and is ideal for patients who require a significant lift. This technique is named because its incision resembles an anchor; it circles around the nipple areolar, reaches down the center of the breast, and then extends horizontally across the natural crease at the base of the breast. Using this incision, our surgeons can remove excess tissue and fat to lift the breast and improve firmness, and relocate the nipple so that it sits at a higher position.

“Lollipop” Incision

Also named for its appearance, the “lollipop” incision is similar to the anchor incision, but without the incision across the base of the breast. When using this technique, our surgeons encircle the nipple areolar and then extend vertically down the middle of the breast. This technique does allow surgeons to improve breast lift and firmness through the removal of excess skin and tissue, and also allows for the repositioning of the nipple. However, while the technique can address moderate sagging, it does not produce results as significant as those achieved through the “anchor” incision and also is not ideal for patients who desire the placement of a breast implant.

“Donut” Incision

Continuing with the pattern, the “donut” technique is named for the singular circular incision that is created around the nipple areolar. While this results in the smallest scar, this is the least frequently used technique because it allows for a minimal degree of lift. Through the donut incision, surgeons can remove skin and tissue to address mild to moderate sagging, and create a more youthful position for the nipple.
